In many places, Juncos are affectionately referred to as Snowbirds,.They are very widespread and in some areas, like here in western Oregon where I live, they don’t migrate at all. It doesn’t snow but once or twice each winter here in this mild climate but we do get frost frequently. One morning I saw this little Junco perched in this wild Azalea. It was bright and sunny with vivid colors peaking through the frost here and there. The combination of light, color and the interesting design of these limbs and shadows provided a wonderful feast for my artist’s eye.

Snowbird was in the 2022 Biennial Exhibit at the Coos Art Museum, Coos Bay, Oregon.
