Pine Siskins are numerous where we live in western Oregon. They appear suddenly, in large groups of very happy birds, always sounding as if they are having a party! They sweep and swoop about from one tree or bush to another and never fail to make me smile as fill the air with cheerful song. This painting depicts a Siskin in a Vine Maple that used to live outside my kitchen window. Sadly, that tree is no longer with us so I am glad that I painted it when it was alive and thriving. A hybridized Japanese Blood Maple now grows in its place and the Pine Siskins are right at home in its branches as well.
