This commission was particularly enjoyable for me as I have been working in pastel for some time. I do love the pastel medium but there is a magical quality about watercolor that I miss when I am away from it for awhile. Fortunately, I heard this bird voicing an alarm in the top of some nearby Myrtle trees or I might have missed this opportunity. I have never seen an immature Green-backed Heron before, only adults, so this was a special treat for me. I am looking forward to creating more paintings from the reference I was able to collect that morning.
